This is me |
I am currently PhD student in bioinformatics at Tartu University. My research field is the thermodynamic modelling of the hybridization of DNA/RNA oligonucleotides like PCR primers and array probes.
My other interests are programming, more precisely 2D vector graphics and 3D, philosophy and gardening.
Programming
I was the main author of Sodipodi vector drawing application, that was later forked to become InkScape.
Currently I am working on free 3D posing and scenebuilding application Khayyam. It was initially meant to be scene builder and animation editor for a yet unnamed game, but since that has started to live its own life as independent application. My current goal is to make it a free Poser-like virtual photography tool.
I have also some 2D and 3D game designs worked out, but nothing is presentable yet.
Philosophy
My main interest is the intersection of ontology and epistemology (plus aesthetics maybe). I think, that Parmenides got it right - but the knowledge of Parmenides was in large part non-philosophical, directly transcending from earlier or contemporary shamanistic culture. Later some biggest (and most analytical) thinkers like Nagarjuna and (to some extent) Kant laid it out very clearly - but unfortunately nowadays the clearness of thought seems to be out of fashion. Analytics were the last ones who cared about it, but they pursued very narrow and ultimately wrong goal.
There seem to be some "false dichotomies" - like between information and impact, that disturb our views about the reality. I feel that the Copenhagen Interpretation tells something very important about the world - although formulated strictly to cope with measurement problems in quantum mechanics, it describes much wider structure of knowledge.
Other activities
I have summer cottage near Tartu, where I spend most of the time between April and September planting trees, cutting trees, building, digging and so on. People who have gardens will understand :D
